Notarial power of attorney for a lawyer: required documents, general vs special POA, photos for divorce, and child/custody files. Ankara.

How Do You Issue a Lawyer’s Power of Attorney in Turkey?

Citizens involved in disputes often want a specialist lawyer. To grant a power of attorney (vekaletname), go to the nearest notary with ID card or passport and give the lawyer’s details: full name, address and Turkish ID number.

In Ankara notaries handle this daily; fees and extra documents depend on the type of mandate.

Required Documents and Fees

For a general POA, ID or passport and a clear address usually suffice. Special mandates may need more: for divorce, two passport photos of the principal are typically required.

A notary fee, updated yearly and varying by type, must also be paid.

Power of Attorney in Child and Custody Files

In matters involving children (custody, contact, maintenance, protection), the POA is usually issued by the legal representative—parent with parental authority or guardian. A minor cannot generally grant a lawyer a full POA alone.

Divorce and custody mandates often require two photos. If custody or best interests are disputed, who may act for the child can depend on the file and interim measures—ask counsel and the notary when unsure.

At Karınca Law Firm in Çankaya we help ensure lawyer details, photos and scope (general/special powers) are drafted correctly for Ankara files.
